When setting up your MyMonero wallet, you will receive a secret Mnemonic Seed.

A Mnemonic is a type of pattern or code.

The term Mnemonic Seed can also be referred to as a Seed Phrase or Mnemonic Phrase.

These terms refer to a group of words, numbers, or letters that make up a secret code designed to protect information.

Why Is The Mnemonic Seed Important?

When creating your MyMonero wallet, your Mnemonic seed, consisting of 25 random words, will be displayed. These words make up the secret code that only you will have access to as the wallet owner.

Here is an example of a seed phrase:

witch ugly locker small dejected creek road again ourselves mobile karate sword buzzer adhesive shame open despair

If you lose access to your wallet for some reason, the Mnemonic Seed is the only way to regain access to your funds.

It is important to note, that the MyMonero team does not store nor have access to your Mnemonic Seed. It is therefore vital that you write it down and keep a copy somewhere safe.

How To Keep Your Mnemonic Seed Safe

When dealing with cryptocurrency, you will find many cybercriminals who want to hack into your wallet and steal your funds. Therefore, it is much safer to store your passwords and Mnemonic Seed physically, by writing them down instead of saving them digitally on your device.
